Chapter 4

Her heart is pounding hardly against my ribcage like a caged lion trying to escape. She pulls her jacket around her tighter. The roads were slippery and wet. She hears the sound of her heels clicking against the cold pavement. Another pair of footsteps is following behind her. She quickened her steps. She cursed those stupid street lights that are so damn dim she can barely see ten steps ahead.

She paused awhile and turn around. Something was lurking in those shadows. She took off her cashmere gloves and slowly squat down. Placing her palm flat on the surface of the pavement. She felt a tingling sensation coursing through her body. A muffled cry was heard in the shadows. It was a short one. She tried to make it as painless as she could for him. After all, he wasn’t at his own will and was only following commands.

They would find him tomorrow morning. She could already see those damn headlines. Those reporters would be acting like hungry vultures. Those dreaded cameras will be flashing on and off for at least an hour. They can’t be blamed anyway. A smile crept up to her mouth. How many times have you seen a body sucked so deeply into the pavement that only his eyes could be seen staring into blankness?

Keisha woke up with a start. She was sitting up straight in a room. Sweat was trickling down forehead. Was it a dream? It had felt so real to her that she was there watching it all happen. She felt that hatred burning within. The way she had stood above those pair of eyes and smiled. They were silently pleading but she showed them no mercy. She had left the poor man there in the cold. Was that all her doing? She couldn’t help but shudder.

She had never felt so cold and cruel before. That hatred that was burning deeply inside was like a huge ball of fire. The pain she felt that pierced directly through her heart. That woman. She had lost someone special in her life. She had experienced the pain of losing someone that meant everything to her. Like Keisha, she had lost everything.
